Collector’s Note

This photograph was created beneath the Ebro Bridge in Aragón during a rare moment when the river’s water level dropped low enough to reveal the huge concrete supports normally hidden from view. Standing between them offered a natural frame — a square window through which the landscape, the river, and the architectural structure aligned with almost perfect symmetry.

I’ve always been drawn to utilitarian architecture: structures designed for pure function that, over time, reveal an unexpected and quiet beauty. This bridge is one of those places. When you stop and look, these industrial forms — weathered, worn, and marked by changing water levels — take on a sculptural presence.

What makes this piece especially cinematic is the way the long exposure transforms the scene. The river turns to glass, the sky stretches into motion, and the directional flow of the clouds mirrors the strong lines of the bridge above. That movement, contrasted with the heavy stillness of the concrete, creates an atmosphere that feels almost suspended in time.

I cross this bridge regularly and had been waiting for the right moment to make this image — a moment when the river receded just enough to step beneath it. A four-minute exposure slows everything down; it forces you to be still, to look carefully, and to notice details that usually disappear in the rush of everyday life.

From several compositions taken that day, this one stood out for its balance, clarity, and the way the soft drifting clouds echoed the geometry of the structure. The result is a calm yet dramatic study of symmetry, texture, and quiet tension — a place where the utilitarian meets the natural, and where stillness and motion coexist beautifully.
